If it were 1966 or 1979, “We’re Coming Back” would come out on a 45, with a perfect b-side, and this single has just that: a punk cover of Jeremy Messersmith’s “Everybody Gets a Kitten,” from his singalong album 11 Obscenely Optimistic Songs For Ukulele. “Like seemingly half the residents of Minnesota, I was doing a Uke selfie video to this when Jeremy put it out a couple years ago, and I realized how close the chords and phrasing were to God Saves the Queen. So I wondered what it might be like to mash that up… with Nick providing the lead guitar, and my best or worst or Rottenest vocal. I know Jeremy won’t sue, hoping Mr. Lydon won’t either, cause I definitely nicked his Vox... with love. Maybe he likes cats?"
